Clearing: what you need to know

What is Clearing?

Clearing is an application opportunity for students looking to secure a place at a university after the UCAS deadline.

Students might choose to apply through Clearing if:

  • they achieved different grades than expected
  • they've changed their mind about their offer in favour of a different university or course
  • they didn’t receive any offers from a university
  • they missed the UCAS deadline and haven’t already applied.

Applying for a place at Leeds through Clearing

Your young person can now view our course vacancies and apply online for a place at Leeds, whether they have their results or not.

If they already have their results, we’ll review their application and get in touch to confirm if we’re able to offer them a place to join us in September.

If they haven’t yet received their results, they can apply to be considered for a place using their predicted grades up until Monday 4 August.

If your young person finds themself reconsidering their options on results day (Thursday 14 August), they’ll be able to check our vacancies to see which courses are available and find out how to contact us to discuss securing a place at Leeds through Clearing.

Applying for accommodation

We understand that choosing where to live is a huge part of university life and that feeling at home will help your young person to be happy and thrive.

If your young person is made an offer through Clearing and applies for their accommodation before 31 August 2025, they will be guaranteed university-arranged accommodation for their first year.

Managing Student Finance

If the young person in your care has previously applied for student finance, they can easily change their course details through their student finance account. If not, they can still apply for student finance after their Clearing place has been confirmed, though they may have to wait a little longer to receive all their funding.
