About foundation courses

If you don’t meet the entry requirements for a degree course, you may be able to take a foundation course. On successful completion, you’ll progress to your chosen degree.

Not all progression pathways are available from a foundation course when applying through Clearing. For example, courses offered by the Faculty of Medicine and Health are not available.

Some of our foundation courses are designed for applicants whose background means they’re less likely to attend university. These courses have additional widening participation entry criteria, which you should review on the relevant course page before applying.

We accept a range of qualifications equivalent to A-levels, including the IB and BTECs. For more information about alternative entry requirements, please see our accepted qualifications page.

Our full list of Clearing course vacancies will be published in August. Register your interest to receive updates and be among the first to know when the full list is available.
